Principles
of Macroeconomics' Announcements
12/5: You took the first half of the
final. The review session for the
second half of the final is at 4:00 today. I strongly
recommend you watch it live or afterwards. That
will greatly improve your grade. The second half of the final
is open notes and open book. It is during the exam slot on Thursday
at 1:00.
11/30: We went over a printout of your
grades and the exam. The review session for the first half of
the final will be Monday 4:00 in the normal room and on Zoom.
The first half of the final will be Tuesday during the normal class
slot. The review session for the second half of the final will
be Tuesday at 4:00. I strongly
advise you watch it to avoid the common errors people make on
the second half of the final.
11/28: We finished Chapter 16. I
handed back the exams. We will go over them and a printout of
your grades on Thursday. We set the time for the review
session for the two parts of the final as Monday at 4:00 and Tuesday
at 4:00.
11/21: We went over the rest of Chapter 15
and started Chapter 16.
11/16: You took the exam. If not and
have not already contacted me, then contact me ASAP.
11/14: I handed back the homework and went
over it. We also went over the questions on the review sheet for the exam and started
Chapter 15, which will not be on the exam. The review session
for Thursday's exam is a half hour after class in the normal
room and on Zoom. NOTE, delete
the sentence on the review sheet in Chapter 11 about SRAS
moving because LRAS moved. That was leftover from a
semester when I gave an exam before we finished Chapter 11.
11/9: You handed in Homework #9 and I
handed out the review sheet. We then went over Chapter
14. The budget data I gave came from https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2023-03/58888-Budget-Infographic.pdf.
The statistics I gave about the debt were as follows:
According to the Treasury Department the gross public debt was
$33,723,125,002,884.20 on 2023/11/7. https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/datasets/debt-to-the-penny/debt-to-the-penny
According to the Census Bureau’s population clock at 9:17 on
2023/11/7, the population was about 335,669,794 people http://www.census.gov/popclock/.
That means the debt is $101,067.36 per person. According to
NASA, the solar system is 4,500,000,000 years old. https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/solar-system/our-solar-system/in-depth/
Therefore, if you earned 1 penny every 42 seconds (without earning
interest) from the start of the solar system, you would not quite
have enough to pay the debt. According to the Bureau of Economic
Analysis, the GDP for the 12 months which ended September 30th, is
estimated to be $27.62 trillion. This means the debt-to-GDP ratio is
1.221. Therefore, the government owes 122.1% of the entire
GDP. https://www.bea.gov/sites/default/files/2023-10/gdp3q23_adv.pdf
